The Kentucky Bar Foundation, Inc.
Commitment to Strengthening Our Justice System
and the Legal Profession which Upholds its Standards

  History of the Foundation

The Kentucky Bar Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization which serves as the charitable arm of Kentucky’s legal community. KBF is committed to promoting justice and legal education for all Kentuckians. This mission is achieved through grants to programs and projects which advance the administration of justice by addressing law-related needs. KBF supports projects that:

  • help those in need through law-related programs;
  • provide information to the public so they can better understand the law and avail themselves of their rights under our judicial system;
  • work to enhance and build trust in the Kentucky Bar and the legal system; and
  • publish important works concerning the law, the legal profession and the judicial system.
The Foundation was established in 1958 and since then has consistently maintained a lengthy tradition of giving. The KBF grant history totaling over $2,000,000 lists a variety of law related projects throughout the state that have received grant funding since 1988.
  • GRANT APPLICATIONS are generally available in January for a grant review process that concludes the following spring. Please call the KBF for information on how to obtain a grant application.
KBF is recognized by the IRS as a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Governing documents, Conflict of Interest Policy and financial statements will be made available upon written request.

KBF’s Board of Directors and staff are readily available to answer your questions and tell you how you can help. The KBF office is located in the Kentucky Bar Center, 514 West Main Street, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601-1812 and can be reached at (800)874-6582 (KY) or (502)564-3795.
