KBA Image for Section Swearing-In Ceremonies Planned
for New Lawyers

The Swearing-In Ceremony for applicants who successfully passed the July 2018 Bar Examination will be held on Monday, October 22, in the Supreme Court of Kentucky Courtroom located on the second floor of the Capitol Building in Frankfort. Nine separate ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m.; a recess for lunch will be held from noon until 12:45 p.m., with the ceremonies commencing again at 1:15 p.m. The last swearing-in session begins at 3 p.m.

The Kentucky Bar Association will host a reception in honor of our newest members between 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. that day at the Bar Center located at 514 W. Main Street, Frankfort, Ky. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the reception immediately after each group’s ceremony.

The 2nd Annual Judge Edward H. Johnstone Award Dinner benefiting the Kentucky Bar Foundation will take place on Thursday, November 1st at 5:00 p.m. at Walker Hall in Paducah (following the Kentucky Law Update). Last year the event sold out with nearly 250 attendees and raised over $10,000 for grants to law-related nonprofits. This year's award will go to the late Doug Myers of Hopkinsville. Mediation Pilot Project: Family Law Section Accepting Applications for Stipends
The Family Law Section of the KBA is accepting applications from local bar associations and non-profit organizations in Kentucky to support mediation projects across the Commonwealth that will provide low-income families with the opportunity to attempt to resolve family law issues through mediation prior to litigation. Four (4) stipends of $9,000 each are available. Recipients will be responsible for organizing and operating their mediation project, documenting use of stipend funds, and reporting outcomes of their project to the KBA Family Law Section. University of Louisville Law Alumni Awards Luncheon
The University of Louisville School of Law Alumni Awards luncheon is Friday, October 26 at 11:30 a.m. at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel. Tickets are $60 each and $40 for public service attorneys and Brandeis School of Law graduates from 2015 and later.

Join us for the 32nd Annual Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Diversity and Leadership Conference in Louisville on October 24-25, 2018. This event is open to ALL persons & attorneys. The legal track will include presentations from leading law firms and the Executive Branch Ethics Commission on the response to the #MeToo movement, the Equal Pay Act, and recent developments in EEO law. Training Course for Hearing Officers and Participants in Administrative Hearings on October 26
The Administrative Hearings Branch, Office of the Attorney General, will present a one-day training course for hearing officers and participants in administrative hearings on Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Kentucky History Center, 100 West Broadway, Brown-Forman Room, Frankfort. This seminar is open to everyone with former KY Supreme Court Deputy Chief Justice Mary Noble as keynote speaker and featuring six other great topics. Approval for 6.5 hours (including 1 hr. of ethics) of continuing legal education is pending before the Kentucky Bar Association.

The registration fee is $125.00 per person. Late registration is $150.00 after October 19. Space is limited so sign up early. Registration forms can be found on the website of the Office of the Attorney General at

AOC To Offer Legal Training for Dependency,
Neglect and Abuse Cases
The Administrative Office of the Courts will conduct legal training for dependency, neglect and abuse cases (formally titled GAL training). For more information on the trainings and the schedule, click here. An application for accreditation has been submitted to the Kentucky Bar Association’s CLE Commission.
