2019 KBA Annual Convention Online Registration Now Open
Online registration is now available for the Kentucky Bar Association’s 2019 Annual Convention to be held June 12-14, at the Galt House Hotel. Click here to access the registration page.

Be on the lookout for the March/April 2019 edition of the Bench & Bar, which was recently mailed. This edition includes information about the upcoming convention and includes a registration form that can be torn out and mailed in with payment.

YLD Award Applications Now Available
Applications for the 2019 Kentucky Bar Association Young Lawyers Division awards are now open. KBA Member Profile Update:
Option to add Social Network Sites to Profile
The KBA is excited to announce a new, optional Networks feature has been added to member profiles on the KBA website. You may now add your professional social network site(s) to your member profile to give KBA’s website visitors a way to connect online with you and/or your firm.

To enhance your profile with this new feature, log in to the KBA website, select Manage Profile in the upper-right corner and then select Networks under Content & Features. Next, select your network in the dropdown, follow the instructions to enter the URL and then select Add to Profile.

Please note that any linked social networks sites must comply with the Rules of the Supreme Court of Kentucky.
KBA’s Ethics Committee’s Lawyer Checklists
The KBA’s Ethics Committee under the guidance of Shelly Gilman and Bill Fortune, updated its previously published “Checklist for Preparation of Client Engagement Letters” and released a new lawyer checklist, “A Checklist to Obtain Client Informed Consent Under SCR 3.130(1.7).” The checklists have been designed to alert lawyers to the myriad decisions that need to be made when considering acceptance of a new client(s). The checklists are intended to serve as a guide to help resolve some of the more fundamental problems at the initial stage of the engagement, and they are not a substitute for careful compliance with SCR 3.130. Both checklists may be found on the KBA website under the heading Resources; then “Resources for Lawyers” then the “Practice Management” section. Administrative Hearings Under KRS Chapter 13B:
A Training Course for Hearing Officers and Participants in Administrative Hearings
The Administrative Hearings Branch, Office of the Attorney General, will present a revised and expanded 6 Hour Training Course for Hearing Officers and participants in Administrative Hearings on April 26, 2019, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Transportation Cabinet, Training Room (C117), 200 Mero Street, Frankfort, KY 40601. This seminar is open to everyone. Approval for 6.0 hours of continuing legal education and educational requirements for Hearing Officers is pending before the Kentucky Bar Association as required by KRS 13B.030(4) and 40 KAR 5:010.

The registration fee is $100.00 per person. Legal Services Corporation Notice of Availability of Grant Funds for Calendar Year 2020
The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) announces the availability of grant funds to provide civil legal services to eligible clients during calendar year 2020. The Request for Proposals (RFP), which includes instructions for preparing the grant proposal, will be available at this website during the week of April 8, 2019. In accordance with LSC’s multiyear funding policy, grants are available for only specified service areas. On or around the week of March 11, 2019, LSC will publish the list of service areas for which grants are available and the service area descriptions here. Applicants must file a Notice of Intent to Compete (NIC) and the grant proposal through LSC’s the online application system in order to participate in the grants process. The online application system will be here during the week of April 8, 2019.
