Casemaker Weekly - April 18th

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

New Feature to debut this week - Cited Cases. We also review how to browse statutes and talk about Casemaker Pro. Let's get started!

New Feature - Cited Cases

Cited Cases allows you to see the cases that were cited within a case. To use this feature, simply pull up a case by searching or browsing. While reading the case, you can click on the tab at the top of the case labeled Cited Cases. This will pull up a list of cases which were cited in that case.

Browsing Statutes In Casemaker

Browsing statutes is another great way to research your issue. At times, you may not know the exact citation for the statute that is relevant to your issue. On other occasions, you may want to see the surrounding statutes as well. Instead of searching, we can browse the statutes.

Start by clicking on the jurisdiction you wish to view from the list of states on the homepage. Then click on Statutes. From there you can drill down in the Statute library to find what you need. Clicking on Titles, then on Subtitles, then Chapters and so on. There is a trail at the top of each page indicating what level of the hierarchy you are on. This can help you get your bearings in complicated statutes titles with many layers.

Do More with Casemaker Pro

Casemaker Pro is a suite of tools to help make your job easier. You can receive regular summaries of appellate decisions in your preferred practice area and jurisdiction with Casemaker Digest. Casecheck+ works seamlessly in the Casemaker system to tell you instantly if a case has been treated negatively by subsequent cases with a red thumbs-down icon. You can click on the case in question to see what type of negative treatment occurred and you will find a direct link to the case which treated it negatively. Casemaker Pro also provides you with Citecheck, a tool which analyzes any searchable brief you upload and provides you with a report on any negatively treated citations. You can find out more about Casemaker Pro by clicking on the Features tab in Casemaker.

That is all for this week! We will back with more tips and tricks next week. Thanks again for making Casemaker a Valued Member Benefit.
