Chief Justice Minton to give 2018 State of the Judiciary address before Interim Joint Committee on Judiciary on Friday, Nov. 2
The University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law will host this year’s update on Judicial Branch operations when Chief Justice John D. Minton Jr. gives the State of the Judiciary Address on Friday, Nov. 2.

He will speak before the General Assembly’s Interim Joint Committee on Judiciary starting at 10 a.m. ET in the Cox Lounge of the U of L School of Law, 2301 S. 3rd St., Louisville. The event is open to the public and the media.

The full address will be posted here shortly after the conclusion of his remarks.

The KBA Congratulates Its Newest Members
New attorneys received their oaths of office on Monday, October 22, in the chamber of the Supreme Court of Kentucky in the state Capitol in Frankfort. The Kentucky Bar Association (KBA) continued its tradition of honoring its newest members, their families and friends with a reception in their honor throughout the day at the Kentucky Bar Center. A total of 220 new attorneys were recommended for admittance to the practice of law following the July 2018 bar examination.
KBA Ethics Opinions are now Searchable!
The KBA Ethics Opinions are now searchable on Casemaker - an online legal research library that’s free to all KBA members. Casemaker allows searches by opinion number, date published, and keyword(s), including Supreme Court Rule(s). To access Casemaker, members may simply log in to the KBA website and select Casemaker. The KBA Ethics Opinions will continue to be published in the Bench & Bar Magazine and maintained on the KBA website.

After a day of giving thanks, and two days of getting deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, there’s another holiday to celebrate: Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is a national movement to celebrate the holiday spirit of giving and generosity and to support the work of our nonprofit community. Celebrate Giving Tuesday, November 27th by contributing to the Kentucky Bar Foundation (KBF) to help support our grants for law-related organizations and projects across Kentucky.

Mediation Pilot Project: Family Law Section Accepting Applications for Stipends
The Family Law Section of the KBA is accepting applications from local bar associations and non-profit organizations in Kentucky to support mediation projects across the Commonwealth that will provide low-income families with the opportunity to attempt to resolve family law issues through mediation prior to litigation. Four (4) stipends of $9,000 each are available. Recipients will be responsible for organizing and operating their mediation project, documenting use of stipend funds, and reporting outcomes of their project to the KBA Family Law Section. To obtain an application, contact Family Law Section Chair, Rebecca Simpson, at rsimpson@elpolaw.com. Applications should be sent by email to: rsimpson@elpolaw.com. APPLICATION DEADLINE: November 15, 2018.
ADR and Family Law Sections to Sponsor
Mediation Training in Spring 2019
Save the Date for Spring 2019 Mediation Training: A basic 40 hour mediation training jointly sponsored by the ADR and Family Law Sections will be held April 1-5 in Louisville, Ky. General Civil and Family Law Training will be offered. Registration will open in January, 2019. Space is limited, and ADR Section members will receive early-bird registration. AOC To Offer Legal Training for Dependency,
Neglect and Abuse Cases
The Administrative Office of the Courts will conduct legal training for dependency, neglect and abuse cases (formally titled GAL training). For more information on the trainings and the schedule, click here. An application for accreditation has been submitted to the Kentucky Bar Association’s CLE Commission.
