Its Newest Members
New attorneys received their oaths of office on Monday, October 21, in the chamber of the Supreme Court of Kentucky in the state Capitol in Frankfort. The Kentucky Bar Association continued its tradition of honoring its newest members, their families and friends with a reception in their honor throughout the day at the Kentucky Bar Center. A total of 238 new attorneys were recommended for admittance to the practice of law following the July 2019 bar examination. Congratulations to these new members!
Reception for Professor Allison Connelly and the KLEO Program
A reception honoring Professor Allison Connelly and the KLEO program will be held on November 6, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at the Louisville Bar Association, 600 West Main Street, Suite 110, Louisville, KY 40202. Refreshments will be served.

The Kentucky Legal Education Opportunity (KLEO) program provides academic and financial support to first year law students at Chase, Brandeis and UK who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and from populations that are underrepresented in the legal profession.

All are encouraged to attend the reception. Donations for KLEO will be gratefully accepted at the event or may be mailed to the KBF. Make checks payable to the Kentucky Bar Foundation and write in the memo line “KLEO.”

Thank you to the Kentucky Bar Foundation for its generous ongoing support of the KLEO program. An additional thanks to all of the individuals and organizations that have contributed to this program’s success over the years.

AOC To Offer Legal Training for Dependency,
Neglect and Abuse Cases
The Administrative Office of the Courts will conduct legal training for dependency, neglect and abuse cases (formally titled GAL training). For more information on the advanced and basic trainings, as well as the schedule, click here.

An application for accreditation has been submitted to the Kentucky Bar Association’s CLE Commission.

Henry O. Whitlow
The Kentucky Bar Foundation hosted its 3rd Annual Judge Edward H. Johnstone Award fundraising dinner, attended by more than 150 attorneys, judges, and community members on October 2, 2019 in Paducah. The late Henry O. Whitlow received the Judge Edward H. Johnstone Award. The event raised over $20,000 with all proceeds going towards grants for law-related organizations and projects throughout the Commonwealth.

Kentucky Lawyer Assistance Program (KYLAP) is exploring the possibility of hosting a closed recovery meeting on a recurring basis in your area. The format would generally follow 12-step guidelines, but all recovery fellowships are welcome (e.g., AA, NA, Al-Anon, Recovery Dharma (formerly Refuge Recovery), SMART, etc.).
